Pope to visit Spain in early June


Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to visit Spain from June 6–12, 2026, with a central highlight being the inauguration of the Sagrada Família’s central "Tower of Jesus Christ" in Barcelona on June 10
. This event marks the 100th anniversary of architect Antoni Gaudí’s death and the structural completion of the basilica's highest tower.

  • Inauguration & Mass: Pope Leo XIV will preside over a Mass to bless the Tower of Jesus Christ at the Sagrada Família on June 10, 2026.
  • Significance: The tower's completion makes the Basilica of the Sagrada Família the world's tallest church.

    • Madrid (June 6–9): Meetings with King Felipe VI and government officials, plus a prayer vigil with youth.
    • Montserrat (June 10): Visit to Montserrat Abbey.
    • Barcelona (June 10): Mass at Sagrada Família and, on the same day, a visit to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia.
    • Canary Islands (June 11–12): Visit to migrant reception centres.
This visit comes 15 years after Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the basilica in 2010.
